Appendix Carry (AIWB): Is It Right for You?

There are plenty of ways to carry concealed, but appendix carry has become one of the most popular, and debated, options out there. It sits just forward of the hip, and for a lot of people, it just works.

On the plus side, the draw is fast and natural, especially if a threat is right in front of you. It keeps the gun close and easy to protect in a clinch, conceals really well under normal clothes with very little printing, and it’s surprisingly easy to get to while you’re sitting down, whether you’re driving or just sitting at a table.

That said, it’s not for everyone. You have to be extremely disciplined with your muzzle awareness. Re-holstering needs to be slow and deliberate every single time — no exceptions. Comfort can also be hit or miss depending on your body type and how good your holster is. And let’s be honest, if you’re not well trained, this position leaves less room for mistakes.

Bottom line up front is: Appendix carry can be an excellent option, but only if you do it right and put in the work like practicing the draw, know the best clothes to wear to prevent printing, and best location for mobility and comfort.

At the end of the day, it’s not really about where you carry the gun — it’s about how well you’ve trained with it.

If you’re still trying to figure out what works best for your body and lifestyle, there’s no substitute for good training.

“Train smart. Stay prepared. Be confident.”
